They did what You said, they had babies.  Why did You let them live so long?  I see the youngest one that died naturally (not murdered) was Lamech (Noah’s father) who died at the age of 777, and the oldest was Methuselah (Noah’s grandfather) who died at the age of 969.

It’s obvious that You decide when people die because our medical technology is beyond anything that those people could have even imagined, but they lived much longer.  What happened next?

“And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them;

that the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose (Gen 6:1-2).

There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bear children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown” (Gen 6:4).

“Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them” (Job 1:6).

A demon, or many at one time, can enter a person’s body (Lk 8:29-30), so it’s possible they entered a man and when he impregnated the woman the demon’s stature affected the size of the born child.

Since the entire blood line of Cain is more-of-less disregarded, it could be possible that the men here were possessed by fallen angles and in turn had sex with the women.

Giants of B.C. & A.D.

Goliath’s stature grew at the hand of narrators or scribes: the oldest manuscripts — the Dead Sea Scrolls  text of Samuel, the 1st century historian Josephus, and the 4th century Septuagint manuscripts — all give his height as “four cubits and a span” (6 feet 9 inches or 2.06 metres); later manuscripts increase this to “six cubits and a span” (9 feet 9 inches or 2.97 metres).

In 1 Samuel 17:4 he is noted to be “six cubits and one span,” about nine feet, six inches. That measurement comes from one Hebrew manuscript tradition, known as the Masoretic text, a text that was fixed around 100 AD by the Jewish community in Israel.  Goliath was not the tallest giant.

From well before Biblical times, man has told amazing tales of giants. The likelihood of seeing a true giant was so slim that they have always been a part of folklore.

But, thanks to modern record keeping and photography, we can now all see first hand, true living giants.

There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters or men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown (Gen 6:4).

This one little verse says quite a lot.  What does God mean when he said there were “giants” here on Earth. 

We have already seen how the pre-Flood world gave the ideal conditions for long life and huge growth, which we also know from the dinosaur, plant, insect and other fossils.  But what about humans? 

We know they lived very long by the genealogies of Genesis (e.g. Adam lived 930 years).  Would they, too, continue to grow very large?

Irish Giant
This photo of a ‘fossilized Irish giant’ was taken at a London rail depot, and appeared in the December 1895 issue of Strand Magazine.

The giant was allegedly dug up by a Mr Dyer while prospecting for iron ore in County Antrim (Ireland).
It was 12 ft 2 in (3.71 m) tall, weighed 2 tonnes (4409.25 lbs), and had 6 toes on its right foot.
Traits often found in giants are 6-fingered hands, double sets of teeth.

Ron Wyatt, on one of his first trips to the Ark site, discovered Noah’s house and the grave of his wife, Mrs. Noah.  He claims the sarcophagus was 18 feet tall.  Now when we hear this, we think it to be incredulous.  But is it really? 

What would we expect a 900 year old person to look like, who lived in a much better environment than ours?  Would we expect them to be exactly like us, or different?  I would certainly expect them to be different. 

And the Bible says “there were giants in those days”.  So according to our best and most reliable source – the Bible – we should expect them to have been very large indeed (the Bible never exagerates).

Since the 1800’s, there have been many written accounts of giant human fossils having been found.  Additionally, very large tools have been found, which only very large people could have used.

There are a few photos of giant skeletons out there on the Web, but I am rather cautious about displaying any such photos.  But there are few that appear to be genuine.

Of course, the ‘believability’ for a Bible literalist is a somewhat less daunting proposition: We know these giants have existed.

These remains were discovered by Saudi oil industry technicians.
He or she stood between 15 and 20 feet tall.
The weathering on it is consistent with the technician’s description that the skull was originally found partially uncovered by the winds.

In fact, since we know the world was amply populated with these creatures before the flood, we should be asking why all this evidence hasn’t been made common knowledge.

Now lets come closer to our time.  Below is a list of the top 12, ordered from shortest to tallest.

 Gabriel Monjane – 8’.75”

Gabriel Monjane (born Gabriel Estêvão Monjane 1944 – 1990)  is one of only 16 individuals in medical history to have reached 8 feet or more in height.

Monjane’s abnormal growth, attributed to an overactive pituitary gland, started soon after birth. By the time he was 17, Gabriel Monjane stood 7 feet 10 inches.

He joined a Portuguese circus around this age, and was billed as 8 feet 8.3 inches. When measured officially in 1987, Gabriel Monjane was attributed with the height of 8 feet and three quarters of an inch. He also weighed 29 stone and 12 lbs (418 lb).

During his lifetime, especially late into his life, Monjane suffered leg problems and was once crippled after falling and breaking his hip.

Zeng Jinlian – 8’1.75” was the tallest female ever recorded in medical history, taking Jane Bunford’s record.

She is also the only female counted among the 16 individuals in medical history who reached a verified eight feet or more.   

At the time of her death at the age of 17, in Hunan, China, she was 8 ft 1.75l. However, she could not stand up straight due to a severely deformed spine.

Nevertheless, she was the tallest person in the world at the time. In the year between the death of 8 feet 2 inch Don Koehler and her own, she surpassed fellow ‘eight-footers’ Gabriel Estavao Monjane and Suleiman Ali Nashnush. 

 

Bernard Coyne – 8’2″ was born in 1897 in Iowa, USA. His 1918 World War I draft card listed his height as 8 feet. His Guinness book of records entry states that he was refused entry to the war due to his height.

At the time of his death it was possible that he had reached the height of 8 foot 4 inches. He died in 1921 of hardening of the liver and a glandular condition. He is buried in his place of birth in a specially made extra-large coffin.

 

 

 

 

 

Väinö Myllyrinne – 8’3″ was born in Finland in 1909. At one point he was officially the world’s tallest man.

At the age of 21 he was 7 feet 3.5 inches tall, and weighed 31 stone (434 lbs).

He experienced another growth spurt after that which took him to his final height of 8 feet 3 inches.

He is considered to be the tallest soldier in history as he was in the Finnish army. He died in 1963.

 

 

 

Edouard Beaupré – 8’3″ was born in 1881, was a circus sideshow freak, a strong man, and a star in Barnum and Baileys.

He was the eldest of 20 children and was born in Canada. While he was of normal height during his first few years of life, by the age of nine he was 6 feet tall.

His death certificate showed him as being 8’3″ and still growing.

As a strongman, his feature stunt was crouching down and lifting a horse to his shoulders. He reportedly lifted horses as heavy as 900 pounds. He died in 1904 of tuberculosis.  

 

 

Ella Ewing – 8’4″ was born in Missouri in 1872. She is known as the ‘Missouri Giant’.

She grew normally until the age of 7, at which time she began to grow rapidly. Her maximum height is disputed and due to the lack of records she is not listed in the Guinness book of Records. 

She toured as a side-show freak until she died of tuberculosis in 1913. 

 

 

 

 

 

 Al Tomaini – 8’4.5″ was a giant who claimed a height of 8’4″ (though the Guiness Book of Records stated that he was 7’4″). Weighing 356 pounds (162 kg) and wearing size 27 shoe.

Al spent most of his life as a circus giant. He was working with a circus at the Great Lakes Exposition in Chicago, in 1936, when he met his future wife, Jeanie Tomaini.

Jeanie was born without legs and was only 2 ft 6 in (76 cm) tall.

After retiring from the circus life, he and Jeanie settled in the circus community of Giant’s Camp, Gibsonton, Florida. 

 

 

 

 

Leonid Stadnyk – 8’5″ was born in 1971 in the Ukraine. He is a registered veterinary surgeon and lives with his mother.

He is currently the world’s tallest human according to the Guinness Book of Records.

According to Pravda, his health is slowly failing in that he needs to hold on to limbs of trees and the side of his house to walk about.

A group of Ukrainian business people donated a satellite dish and a computer to Stadnyk and now he has Internet access.

 

 

 

 

John Carroll  – 8’7″ was born in Buffalo, New York and was known as the Buffalo giant.

Despite a large number of medical treatments, he grew at a very rapid rate.

He grew seven inches in a matter of a few months.

He died in 1969 and while his height was not recorded at the time, it is believed that he was very close to nine feet.

 

 

 

 

 

John Rogan – 8’9″ was born in 1868 and he grew normally until the age of 13.

His height was not officially recorded until his death at which point he was 8’9″ tall. Due to illness he weighed only 175 pounds.

He is the tallest African American ever.

He died in 1905 due to complications from his illness. 

 

 

 

Johan  – 8′ 9-1/4″ was born in America the year that his mother moved there from Norway.

He beats John Rogan to the second spot on this list by a mere 1/4 of an inch.

Interestingly his mother was also a giant, at 7’2″.

According to his death certificate from Mendocino State Hospital, at the time of death he was 9’2″ – if this is true then he is the tallest recorded human – beating our number 1 spot by 3 inches. He is buried in Montana.

 

 

 

 

Robert Wadlow – 8′ 11.1″ is the tallest man in history whose height is verified by indisputable evidence.

He is often referred to as the Alton giant because he came from Alton, Illinois.

At the time of his death he weighed 440 pounds and showed no signs of stopping growing.

He was born in 1918, the oldest of five children.

He died at the age of 22 from an infection caused by a blister on his ankle, which he got while making a professional appearance at the National Forest Festival.

His coffin weighed half a ton and required 12 pallbearers to carry.

He was buried in a vault of solid concrete as his family had fears that his body would be interfered with by curiosity seekers.
