Birth of Cain and Abel

Finger Pointing UpDid Adam and Eve have children?  If so, what were they like?

“And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.

And she again bare his brother Abel.  And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground” (Gen 4:1-2).

When it was time for Cain and Abel to give a sin-offering to God (we all sin – Rom 3:23) Abel provided a sheep for his sin-offering, and not any sheep, but the best he had, and God was pleased with it (Gen 4:4).

But Cain was greedy and he offered some fruit (Gen 4:3) and God rejected it.  Cain’s disobedience and disrespect of God is sinful.  God’s displeasure of Cain’s offering and His acceptance of Abel’s offering angered Cain greatly.

Why we all sin is because of Adam and Eve’s disobedience, that is how and when sin entered the world (Rom 5:12-14) and God demanded sin-offerings for everyone to be forgiven (Lev 4:2).  Jesus

A sin-offering requires blood (Lev 4:3-5), that is why God killed the animal to clothe Adam and Eve.

The cost of sin is death (Rom 6:23), and the payment is blood (Heb 9:22), Jesus paid for our sins (Lev 17:11, Rom 3:24-25) so we don’t have to give sin offerings, we only have to believe (Jn 3:16).

“And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth?  And why is thy countenance fallen?  If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted?

And if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door.  And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him” (Gen 4:6-7).
